Our Mission

To encourage the understanding and knowledge of creative sewing skills for all ages and abilities. To share the joy of using your hands, concentrating on a task, and making or mending something beautiful.

Sewing is an essential life skill but it also offers peace of mind, personal satisfaction and achievement whether working alone or with others. In today's environment sewing provides opportunities for those seeking mindfulness.

How it started

The business started because I had a wide breadth of sewing knowledge and there was a local demand for sewing skills from my own children and their friends. At that point I had been working for 20 years as a production engineer, design manager and lecturer in the Fashion andTextile industry and I had a passion for the importance of sewing as a lifeskill and as a method of mindfulness.

In 2002 I set up ‘Sew Much Fun’ aptly named by the participants of the classes! in my spare time from my home and in church halls. I then turned it into a full time occupation in December 2007 by opening my first shop. We were probably the first shop of its kind in London, mainly offering sewing classes for all ages and then developing the retail shop selling fabric, haberdashery and our own sewing projects.

I opened my second shop in Windermere 2013 and it has been lovely bringing the concept of Sew Much Fun to the Lake District.

I wrote my book ‘A Year of Sew Much Fun’ in 2015.

2021 due to the pandemic I have had to close my Lake District shop.

Primrose Hill is our home...

We are very much a local shop, teaching up to 75 students a week with age groups varying from 5 to 85! Everyone will be sewing their own projects with our expert guidance and enthusiasm and having great fun.

Our unique selling point is a creative atmosphere with a personal service. I do most of the teaching myself with the support of students who I have known for many years. I am helped enormously by Alex who is my wonderful shop assistant who will unfortunately be returning to Germany this summer.

When I am not at Sew Much Fun I am spending time with family and friends. This will often be combined with visiting Art Galleries, Fashion and Textile Exhibitions and checking out more fabric creativity at Liberty London!

Sustainability and Product Responsibility

Over the last 6 months I have spent some time reviewing the sustainability credentials of Sew Much Fun. We have always had strong links with the concepts of repairing, reusing and recycling and this will continue alongside reviewing all aspects of the businesses carbon footprint.

Roz Davies

‘ My aim is to encourage everyone to have a go at sewing. It is a useful (maybe even an essential) life skill. It opens up all sorts of opportunities from designing to engineering, architecture to surgery! Most of all it provides an activity that consumes all your thoughts, uses your hands and concentration and develops skill that can lead to a more sustainable approach to living.’

'I often say to sceptical parents, see it as soft Meccano….. with the added complexity that you can turn it inside out!'
